Family programming is a vital component of Koinonia’s substance abuse treatment process. We provide education and support to help family members heal from the harmful effects of a loved one’s addiction. This program is educational and therapeutic with respect to helping families understand how addiction has affected them and how to develop and implement healthy coping strategies. Our family program is designed to provide multiple families the opportunity to interact with one another as well as the clinicians. Families often find support and comfort in knowing other families are experiencing similar issues.
Family Involvement
For family and friends of drug- or alcohol-addicted individuals, addressing the addiction is one of the most difficult aspects of helping the addicted person seek treatment. Often, over time, daily family involvement has only managed to enable the addict. Family members frequently do not know how to bring up the issue of addiction.
Stay Involved & Supportive
When a loved one comes home from rehab, it’s crucial to keep in mind that it may be necessary for your entire family to create and implement a lifestyle change. This often means family members maintaining a drug-free and alcohol-free environment within the household – especially during a loved one’s early recovery. By creating this healthy, sober home environment, it reduces the temptation or using or drinking.
The early days of recovery can be especially lonely, but having the support and understanding of close friends and family can lay the foundation for continued success in sobriety.
